FBI Special Agents & Junk Mail

After our organization decided to file a criminal complaint against some terminally twitified cretin who thought that email spamming was tres, tres clever, I decided to phone Virginia and talk to the FBI[1]--the home of dark suits and aviator glasses.

Seems we needed to generate a search warrant, and this is the way It Get's Done. The goal, of course, is so we can watch the yahoo twist slowly in the gentle breezes of the court system...

The Special Agent there (Have you ever met an FBI agent who didn't have the title "Special Agent"?) suggested that, if we didn't get cooperation with local authorities, e.g., the police, we ought to then talk with our local office of the FBI.[2]

Quote regarding e-mail harrassment: "If you tell them that it's a `288 matter', they'll think you're one of us and you ought to get better cooperation from our agents."

OK. So I chat with our local police and they decide to proceed with the matter and secure the necessary search warrant. However, as I relate the story of my FBI call, the local officer is ROTFL.[3] Seems that within the local police jurisdictions, "288" is police-speak for sodomy![4]

Anyone else ever been "screwed" by junk mailing?

[1] Federal Bureau of Investigation for all you un'Merkins.
[2] Seems that the ISP, who owned the dial-up port from whence this trash originated, is holding the real ID of the perp. They'll be only too happy to release the name with an appropriate search warrant...
[3] Conduct unbecoming an officer, IMHO.
[4] Gawd, I hope that that's not Useful Information. (Thwap. Ow!!)
